Yen-Shin Lai

Born 1962 in Chia-Yi County, Taiwan.

Staff Editor: Please tell us something about your career and profession.
Yen-Shin Lai: I received the MS degree from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Bristol, Bristol, England, U.K., both in electronic engineering. In 1987, I joined Electrical Engineering Department, National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan, as a Lecturer. I have been a full Professor since 1999 and served as the Department Head during 2003- 2006. I am currently a Distinguished Professor.

SE: When and how did you get involved in LEVs?
YL: I have worked in the area of Power Electronics for more than 10 years, especially in the fi eld of motor drives and power converters for vehicle and home appliance applications.

SE: What is your personal motivation to work in LEVs?
YL: To apply the power electronics techniques to provide higher performance of motor drives and higher effi ciency of converters/inverters for LEV,
