Im Kongress-Zentrum in Shanghai nahe dem Olympiastadion fand am 10. und 11. Dezember 2004 das 8. Symposium zu Elektrofahrrädern statt. Organisiert wurder der Kongress von der China Bicycle Association. Das Publikum war bis auf wenige Aussnahmen chinesisch, die Vorträge wurden jedoch zum grössten Teil von Industrie-Vertretern aus Europa, USA und Japan gehalten. Schwerpunkte waren die Chancen chinesischer Hersteller auf dem Weltmarkt und die Anforderungen an chinesische Produkte in den Bereichen Komponenten, Design und Marketing.

LEV-Ausstellung zum Kongress
Parallel zum Kongress lockte eine Elektro-Bike-Ausstellung fast ausschließlich chinesischer Produkte zahlreiche Besucher an. Auffallend war die grosse Anzahl von Elektrobikes im Scooter-Stil und knalligen Farben. Viele der Bikes haben keine funktionstüchtigen Pedale mehr sondern nur noch Fußstützen, damit sie rechtlich als Fahrrad annerkannt werden.
