Knaus BESV

A real looker, with the major brand name of mobile home maker Knaus. At first glance it’s a very distinctive pedelec – but unfortunately it’s not worth its price. The concept is good, but sadly the details are not.

Knaus enthuses on its website: “The requirements and wishes of the camping community have been analysed and implemented in a perfect pedelec. You’ve never experienced mobility like this before.” Unfortunately, the ExtraEnergy test riders took a very different view. High expectations had been raised by the very accomplished design, but these were dashed after just a few metres. Test riders described the handling as “spongy, suspension can’t be meaningfully adjusted for rider weight, rather nervous handling but no shimmy.” The cheap derailleur and suspension fork are an insult to the elaborate frame and its excellent design. So, as it is currently offered, it is technically unimpressive, and absolutely cannot be recommended for the price. The battery lighting system is not up to date, and the spoke reflectors are superfluous alongside the reflective strips in the tyres – like wearing braces when you already have a belt. We hope we’ll soon see an improved version from Knaus!
