Hercules Futura F8 Gates Test 2015/16

Summary: A fine, clean-lined city comfort pedelec which, with its flawless specification, also promises to be highly touring-capable.

There’s no doubt that pedelecs are the future, so the name Futura 8 is well suited to this fine example of the genre. Test riders especially appreciated the well-modulated drive system; for a bike with the Bosch Active Line motor the power assist factor values are relatively high, although still significantly below those of comparable models using the Performance version. But on the other hand the range figures are very good. The Futura has a very clean look, in its glossy dark blue with discreet white lining, and the internal cable routing underlines the effect. A wide handlebar with ergonomic grips, the angle-adjustable stem and the suspended saddle, together with a suspension fork with lock-out function, ensure high ride comfort levels and good adjustability. The Gates belt drive is quiet and low-maintenance in operation, while the Nexus hub gear serves well, as long as you don’t attempt gear changes under heavy load on hills – then it can catch, somewhat. Overall the Futura 8 earns a “Very Good” as an easy pedelec, even if it’s not the most affordable.
