Summary: A two-wheeled stunner: the Contrail is our off-road test winner. And there’s no doubt about where it’s heading next: up the nearest steep hill!
Riding full-suspension bikes is always great, but the Bergamont Contrail adds a serious extra helping of fun. Key to this is the Performance CX motor, especially developed for the fast-growing off-road market, and which in extreme situations can deliver vital extra power, with up to 75 Nm of torque on tap. This gives the Bergamont top marks for power assist. Combine this with the easy saddle height adjustment as you ride, the wide bars and full suspension, which flattens almost any bump, and you hear the call of the hills loud and clear. Tarmac? No thanks. It’s no wonder that the test riders enthused about the good ride quality of the Contrail. The superb component list, from XT derailleurs to DT Swiss wheels to MT4 disk brakes, has as its crowning glory the Nyon display. Route planning and fitness functions are all just a click away with this GPS-enabled on-board computer. Congratulations on the test win from ExtraEnergy!
