Tim Schaefer, expert on safety and transport of lithium batteries, has been appointed Project Manager of Battery Safety Organization BATSO. He left GAIA Akkumulatorenwerke where he served as Company Secretary.
Tim Schaefer from Nordhausen, Germany, has been appointed BATSO Project Manager by the board of ExtraEnergy e.V. in July 2007. On a voluntary basis Schaefer has taken over the important job of coordinating the teamwork between LEV industry, non-governmental organizations, and two most renowned testing institutions – TUV Rheinland and UL. Schaefer is also responsible to integrate the interests of the European and, in particular, the German industry into the project.
Schaefer is expert in battery safety and transport of large lithium batteries. He worked at the German subsidiary of LTC Lithium Technology Corporation (USA), GAIA Akkumulatorewerke in Nordhausen, for more than 10 years. Since 1998 he also served as Company Secretary.
Schaefer studied law, political science, and social psychology in Potsdam, Hagen, and St. Petersburg. In earlier leading positions he worked for Leuna-Werke AG, Germany, and Pro Innovation Research Center for High Technology and Industrial Application in Germany.
With over 15 years of experience in management, R&D and manufacturing of large format lithium-ion batteries, Schaefer will now contribute his extensive market knowledge and battery expertise to the BATSO project.
