Presto training in Poland focuses on Infrastructure

Sixty people from all over Poland participated in the first training session of the EU-funded Presto project "Promoting Cycling for Everyone as a Daily Transport Mode" in Tczew (Poland) on 26 and 27 February, Brussels-based European Two-wheeler Retailers' Association (ETRA) said today.

The theme of the training session was "Creating a cycle-friendly city" and the topics discussed were specifically selected by the City of Tczew.

Five trainers with outstanding knowledge of cycling infrastructure planning and the promotion of cycling as a mode of transport, talked to participants (photo) and gave them the "tools" to encourage cycling in their own cities.

It was the first of five training sessions included in the competence-building activities of the Presto project, aimed at giving decisionmakers a wide range of "tools" to encourage cycling in their cities. The next international training session will be held in Grenoble (France) on 9-10 June 2010. Information about registration will be published on the Presto website as soon as it becomes available.

Presto will be present at the upcoming Velo-city Global 2010 Conference in Copenhagen. During a subplenary session, the Presto team will present its approach to selecting the most appropriate packages of cycling measures for so-called starter cities, climber cities and champion cities.

ETRA is a partner in the Presto project, which is sponsored by Accell, Giant and Ultra Motor. The project runs from May 2009 until January 2011 and involves 12 European partners, including five cities which will benefit from on-site training sessions: Bremen (Germany), Grenoble (France), Tczew (Poland), Venice (Italy) and Zagreb (Croatia).
