Talk: Standardization at EUROBIKE 2014

Lectures on the standardization prozess at the LEV Components Special Exhibition at EUROBIKE 2014. "In the beginning of the next year, standards will be available for most topics." Download now available.

Dipl. Ing. Eduard Stolz, opi2020: "In the world of standardization, there is ISO on the vehicle side and IEC on the equipment side. For mopeds/motorcycles,  ISO TC 22/SC 23 and SC22 is responsible. On the IEC side, we have TC 69. Still, there is a lack of standardization on the ISO side between the passenger cars and mopeds/motorcycles and below motorcycles. In the beginning of the next year, standards will be available for most topics."

Dipl. Ing. Stephan Scheuer, president and founding member BATSO e.V.: "Six generic test requirements dominate the LEV battery design: Overcharge, short circuit of battery and short circuit on cell level, crush, shock, dropping, climate stability and safe quality of battery series. There is a need for standards and as more the energy densities rise up as more critical is the issue. Next year, we probably will get the ISO 18243 for electrically propelled mopeds and motorcycles. The CENELEC standard EN 50604-1for EPAC batteries is also expected in 2015 which is basically the content of the BATSO 01 standard. The five steps for a safe battery market are: 1. Independently battery type testing, 2. Initial battery factory inspection by external experts, 3. Certification by certification body, 4. Repeatedly factory inspection and 5. An effective market surveillance."
