E-mobility puts BIKE EXPO on Growth Path

BIKE EXPO, the bicycle trade fair organized for the first time last year, will run from 22 to 25 July in Munich this year. The decision to dedicate a complete hall to the trend theme e-mobility this year, is proving to be a good one: three months ahead of the fair the same exhibition area has already been booked as last year.

"Three months ahead of BIKE EXPO 2010 our fixed bookings for indoor and outdoor exhibition space already equalled the area booked for BIKE EXPO 2009," said exhibition group director Markus Hefter. And enquiries for the remaining exhibition space are being received daily.

This is not surprising, since urban mobility (and especially e-mobility) are presently hot trends in the bicycle market. Electric bike sales supported the bicycle trade's turnover in 2009, when 150,000 pedelecs were sold (36% more than in 2008). Sales are forecast to climb to 200,000 in 2010.

One hall dedicated to e-mobility
The focul point of BIKE EXPO 2010 in Munich reflects the growing popularity of engine-supported bicycles. In 2009 a total of 14,000 test rounds were cycled on the ExtraEnergy test track - a number which is expected to double in 2010. After BIKE EXPO 2009 Messe München and ExtraEnergy intensified their cooperation and this year ExtraEnergy will plan, organise and run the complete supporting program for e-mobility in the entire Hall C4.

The e-mobility hall will be one of several attractions to manufacturers of pedelecs and e-bikes. The supporting program convinces with its clear focus and extensive offer to exhibitors and visitors. For instance, an indoor test track will invite visitors to test-ride a variety of electric bikes, while the outdoor test track will be dedicated to fast pedelecs (s-pedelecs), which can be taken to their limits on the long stretches.

Visitors will get access to the test track via the ExtraEnergy Check-in and stands, which are compact and practical and offered to exhibitors as complete packages. Premium areas are also on offer. They include additional services, such as advertising space, trader courses and product presentations in the ExtraEnergy Magazine for the BIKE EXPO. Manufacturers of LEV (light electric vehicle) components will find their ideal exhibition spaces in the new LEV Components Village.

Information events and presentations round the LEV program off. An exhibition of pedelecs which participated in the last two, multi-stage ExtraEnergy Tests is expected to be very popular again this year. In addition, the test results of the latest ExtraEnergy Test (conducted in the second quarter of 2010), will be published in the ExtraEnergy Magazine just in time for BIKE EXPO 2010. This magazine will have a print run of 15,000 and will inform fair visitors extensively about pedelecs and e-bikes and guide them through Hall C4 - the e-mobility hall.

Furthermore, two competitions dedicated entirely to LEVs will be run for the first time this year. Firstly, the winners of the ExtraEnergy Spring 2010 Test will be honored with the ExtraEnergy Pedelec Awards in the course of the fair. Secondly, the BrandNew Awards will this year be awarded for the first time also in the category LEVs.
