Maybe Velofollies show in Belgium revealed a new target group for pedelecs. Young BMX racers loved speeding around on the ExtraEnergy track.
 

 
The consumer bicycle event Velofollies was held in Kortrijk, Belgium, just before Christmas 2006. The show attracted visitors of any age, so did the pedelec try out track of ExtraEnergy. But the ones who showed most enthusiasm were kids in protectors and racing outfits.

Although the young BMX riders were provided with a top quality track in an entire hall, they came to the ExtraEnergy track whenever they had a break between races, put their awards on the table, and speeded around on electric bikes. They came every day and brought along friends and family to have a go as well.

These kids obviously loved the extra speed and the push from the motor. Their prompt excitement came without even wasting a thought that their friends could laugh at them for riding an electric bike. Handicapped and old? No! These kids think the opposite: They are proud to be faster than their classmates who only ride regular bikes. This is cool!

The electric bike promotion team at Velofollies, including people of ExtraEnergy, BinBike, Helkama, Batavus, and E-Move started wondering if teenagers are a target group we should consider seriously: catch the kids before they are 16 and ride scooters. They definitely show the necessary enthusiasm. They will want cool and sporty looking bikes, pedelecs for which they don’t need a helmet or moped driver’s license. If their parents will by a pedelec for them remains a different question – a question worth asking.
