Urkauf-Chen at GoPedelec! Training in Mattighofen

On 16 and 17 February 2012, the third GoPedelec! Expert Training took place in Austria. KTM owner Carol Urkauf-Chen welcomed about 100 participants at the headquarters in Mattighofen.

Nearly hundred pedelec retailers have come to the KTM headquarters in the rural area of the Austrian province of Salzburg. This is one of not the most renowned Austrian bike manufacturer and since few years also pedelec manufacturer. The day was opened by the KTM owner Mrs. Urkauf-Chen, who is personally a key driving force in the development of new pedelec products at KTM.

The day is highly interesting because the audience is mixed: for the first time not only KTM retailers are invited but via the Go Pedelec! project also 16 non-KTM retailers take part. After the KTM CEO, Mr. Leingartner and after the head of KTM marketing, Mr. Limbrunner gave their welcome speeches. Mr. Limbrunner showed that KTM was a frontrunner what regards the development of pedelec-mountian-bikes.

Hannes Neupert gave a speech on pedelecs and current market developments at an international scale. It was not the first time that during his presentation he cited the Dutch pedelec expert Han Goes, however, this time in Mattighofen it was special moment with the KTM owner, Mrs. Urkauf-Chen, listening:

'The bike industry has to get more involved in the sector of the broader category of 'Light Electric Vehicles' (LEV) otherwise others, such as industries from roboter production, will first dominate the LEV market and will then also conquer the pedelec market.' At the same time Hannes Neupert showed recent take-overs in the pedelec sector (Pon buys Gazelle and Derby Cycle, Hero buys UltraMotors) and emphasized that KTM is in family hands and thereby is little likely to be sold. Diversity among manufacturers is a good condition for keeping the innovation rate high. After this there was the BionX training which was held again in a double conference between Martin Gnann from BionX and C. Seitner from KTM (same setting as in St. Pölten).

After lunch the guests from Japan presented the Panasonic system with C. Seitner translating and adding explanations. The provided information was very in depth, probably also in some cases too much for the daily practice of a retailer. Nevertheless, the presence of the two Japanese representatives at the training showed the good networking capacities of Hannes Neupert who made this possible. Before lunch a guided tour through the production site of KTM was offered. One innovative detail was that in the 'assembly boxes' always a woman and a man work together in a team of two. This has proven effective by experience in the past.
