Born in 1964 in Hsinchu, Taiwan Staff Editor: Please tell us something about your career and profession. MHY: I received my Ph.D. degree from Catholic University of Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium in the field of Chemistry. I have been working at ITRI since 1997 and have been engaged in Li-ion battery R&D for electric vehicle application. I have been a project leader for Li-ion battery development in LEV and HEV application as well as the LEV promotion project in Taiwan, those projects were supported by Taiwan government. Later I was project project leader for power Li-ion battery development. Today I have a supervising function. In 2008 I started as CTO at HiTech Energy in Taiwan. I am also President of the EnergyBus association based in Germany. SE: When and how did you get involved in LEVs? MHY: I started to contact LEV business in 1997 when I was back to Taiwan for the first job at ITRI. In 1997, there has an open position to plan a new project for LEV development. I got this position and deeply spend a long time to looking for the strategy how to help the LEV realize in our life from since to technology, and then from technology to commercial product. So, I do my effort to integrate the resources in Taiwan for LEV development. SE: What is your personal motivation to work in LEVs? MHY: At beginning, LEV is my work, but now I believe it can contribute to our society for sustainable development. Due to energy and environmental issues, I believe the success of LEVs can change it.
