Vergel, Frederic

AVERE Secretary General
Belgium

Born 1966 in Brussels, Belgium

Staff Editor: Please tell us something about your career and profession.
Frederic Vergel: I am Commercial Engineer, Graduate in European Affairs, Graduate in Fiscal and Community Laws

SE: When and how did you get involved in LEVs?
FV: Between 1994 and 1998 I was the assistant to the Secretary-General of SEFA, a European Association dealing with packaging. Since 1998 I am the Secretary-General of AVERE, the European Association for Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles. At the AVERE I am responsible for the following:
- co-ordinating the activities of the 14 national member countries, indirectly representing 500 key actors in the electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicle industry;
- providing information and promoting of the use of electric road vehicles in Europe;
- organizing the Electric Vehicle Symposia, gathering over 1500 specialists;
- participating and coordinating in different EU projects;
- monitoring and lobbying EU regulations, especially as regards environment and transport.

SE: What is your personal motivation to work in LEVs?
FV: Very quickly I have been convinced of the fact that electric two wheelers are an important element for the development of a sustainable mobility scheme. When IEA started the discussion of a new annex on this particular topic, he was more than happy to put AVERE's vast network, as well as his expertise in
management and organization, at the disposal of the agency to coordinate the work.
