Wagner, Wolfram

Director of Mobility and Transport Divisiion at TUV Rheinland Taiwan Ltd. / Taiwan

Born 1953 in Bonn, Germany

Staff Editor: Please tell us something about your career and profession.
Wolfram Wagner: I received my Dipl.Ing degree from RWTH Aachen in 1981.I have been working at TUV Rheinland since then (1981) and have been engaged in vehicle inspection, driving license testing and vehicle type approval. My career started in Cologne / Germany, continued in Toyko / Japan, where I engaged myself in the homologation of components and complete vehicles. After 6 years in Japan I returned to Germany as an expert for servicing foreign customers. Since 1995 I am in Taiwan as Deputy General Manager and automotive specialist. I am currently heading the Mobility and Transport Division of TUV Rheinland Taiwan Ltd. with totally 100 employees.

SE: When and how did you get involved in LEVs?
WW: During my homologation work of 2-wheelers (scooter) in Taiwan, I made the fi rst ever EC type approval for an electric driven scooter within TUV
Rheinland in 1999. At that time, the EC just started to defi ne such vehicles in the whole vehicle type approval process and we made our fi rst type approval process via RDW in the Netherlands.

SE: What is your personal motivation to work in LEVs?
WW: LEV‘s will have a bright future as soon as their batteries become more attractive. The recent development of alternative energies such as improved
battery concepts or even fuel cells are an upcoming technology with extreme potential for our future energy consumption strategy under an environmental friendly concept.
