Committed: the Ruhrmobil-E Network

The city of Bochum (population: 381,000) wants to become Germany's model city for e-mobility and is getting fantastic support towards this goal from a network of local organizations, individuals and businesses called ruhrmobil-E. The people of Bochum realizes, it's the early bird which catches the worm.

Halfway through 2009, a wide variety of Bochumer community institutions formed an e-mobility network.

Among them were vehicle manufacturers, auto-part suppliers, politicians, private and community businesses, associations, trade unions, universities, residential building contractors, local authorities, service industries and many more.

They came together for a very good reason: to build awareness in Bochum and the region for e-transport as a new, clean and quiet way of getting around. The members of the network realize e-transport has moved from the realm of science fiction to reality - a reality which brings with it many opportunities for the region.

All around the world transport forms are being converted to protect the climate and preserve oil reserves. For the network, speed is now of the essence, to secure a leading position in the market - not only for building automobiles.

The decision to make Bochum the model city for e-mobility was a relatively easy one for the city council to take. Especially, since it knew it could bank on the energetic support of the ruhrmobil-E network when it came to the realization of the ambitious plan.

A wide variety of well-supported events have since been organized by network members on their own initiative and under the leadership of initiator and local journalist Kai Rüsberg. Praise and support for the initiatives come regularly from Dr. Ottilie Scholz, the majoress of Bochum.

The networkers maintain: the quicker the region positions itself for e-mobility, the bigger will be the market advantage. The early bird catches the worm, they say.

That's also why the network ruhrmobil-E gladly accepts new members. It extends a friendly invitation to interested parties, organizations and institutions to join the ranks.
