Babboe Carve Mountain

Safe and dynamic handling when rider and cargo box lean into the curves. Needs some practice time. The Babboe Carve shows that tilting technology can definitely make a positive contribution to the future of cargo pedelecs.
 

 

Once you’ve got the hang of the tilting system, it’s great fun to ride around, both for the rider and for children in the cargo box.

The tilting system can also be deactivated, which is advantageous for riding slowly or parking. When the tilting mechanism is locked out you must, as with any tricycle, ride slowly and with extra care around corners to avoid suddenly tipping over.

But with the tilting technology activated, so that rider and cargo box lean into the curves, the handling feels safe and dynamic. Riding without the tilting locked out is recommended, for example, in city riding with tight corners, or anywhere where the road has a steep camber or is unsurfaced. This applies irrespective of load carried.

The Babboe Carve shows that tilting technology can definitely make a positive contribution to the future of cargo pedelecs. But it also demonstrates that it is difficult to design a vehicle with a purely mechanical tilting mechanism which is completely intuitive and safe to use without any practice. In future, improvements in this area will certainly come from using actuators.
